Monkees Monday #17

“(Look Out) Here Comes Tomorrow”.

Vocals: Davy Jones

I am not shy to admit that there are very few Davy Jones-sung Monkees songs that I actually enjoy. A lot of his songs tend to be more on the sappy side. The Monkees are known for being a little cheesy, at least that is what people most associate with them and their bubblegum pop songs, but Davy’s are not the same. Although most Monkees songs are about love and/or girls in some fashion, Davy’s tend to churn the stomach a little. Apart from that, his style also seemed to lean further towards show-tune than the other boys. (Peter being a little more playful…and later quite sexy, Micky being sensual and adorable, and Mike being charming and slightly southern). Out of all of the Davy songs, this is probably one of my top two. It also happens to come from one of my VERY FAVORITE episodes (Monkee Mother) and Mike and Peter playing patty-cake during the romp for this song has always melted my heart. Apart from this being one of MY favorites, I guarantee you it is one of my mother’s, if not her absolute favorite.
