Monkees Monday #12

“Don’t Call On Me”.

Vocals: Mike Nesmith

I looked at the clock tonight and noticed it was after 9 and I had still yet to post this week’s song. I got a little frantic thinking about what to post and grabbed for my CDs. I read the first song off the first CD and said “YES!”.

Almost 10 years ago I found myself very much RE-interested in the Monkees. I had been a fan since I was a little kid, but seemed to grow out of them a little bit. Then some of the episodes started popping up on TV one summer and I remembered just how much I loved this band. In all the years I had loved them before, however, my knowledge of their music was very limited. This summer that my interest was rekindled I started discovering a large amount of their songs I had never heard before. It was a weird time for me because I heard the Monkees in a new way than I had ever done. That is kind of what I want this blog to be for everyone else.

TO GET BACK ON TRACK: This song was one of the songs I discovered that summer and, although it is VERY obvious now, I wasn’t even sure who sang this song when I first heard it because I had never heard Mike sing something like this. I was used to his overly twangy country-pop songs that were par for the Monkees Television Series. I adore this song!
